I love recommending this book to young and mid level readers who are curious about Indian writers because this is such a great collection! It brings together writers old and new and presents a collection that will jolt readers into sitting up and taking notice!
From the very beginning readers will be shocked by #satyajitray's classic The Vicious Vampire and then be transported to simpler times with RK Narayan's Swami and Friends and Premchand's Big Brother. But just so readers don't get complacent we are led from Premchand to one of my favourite @_sudha_murthy stories - How I Taught My Grandmother to Read. From there on there are stalwarts like Vikram Seth, Ruskin Bond, Jim Corbett, and Paul Zachariah. Before the book ends, there is a banger of a story from Ranjit Lal- a completely unexpected, punch to the gut of a story!
What's not to love about this book! Author and translator Deepa Agarwal delivers a winner that is must-have for every Indian reader.
